The Hua Ci Traditional Chinese Medicine Experience Zone has become a hotspot, showcasing amazing modern Chinese medicine technology.

Physicians from the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine are stationed at the site and use ear acupoint detectors to detect physical conditions by experiencing the acupuncture points of people’s ears corresponding to various parts of the body.

Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital has participated in the Taiwan Medical Technology Exhibition for six consecutive years. In addition to expert lectures and poster exhibitions, the experience area set up by the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine has been a "popular hotspot" every year. This year, the experience zone featured traditional Chinese medicine ear point testing, aura energy testing, and the "Hand Diagnostic Instrument" brought by Shun Technology Company, along with a remote Chinese medicine pulse diagnosis system developed by laboratory students led by Professor Chen Xiangfeng from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Taiwan University. The hand diagnostic instrument has received multiple international certifications and can be used for DIY health care. Visitors at each stop were amazed by these innovations.

Every year at the Taiwan Medical Technology Exhibition, there is almost always a long queue at the Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital booth’s Chinese medicine experience area. In addition to actively promoting the integration of Chinese and Western medicine, Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital has been developing Chinese herbal compound drinks since the outbreak of the new coronavirus. New products from the Jingsi Materia Medica series are released annually in collaboration with Jingsi Bookstore. The Chinese medicine experience area remains a hotspot, attracting many visitors. Zheng Kaiyun, the host of the Health 2.0 program, also visited the booth, experienced the offerings, and shared his experience on his FB fan page.

Each day, doctors from the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine staff the TCM ear acupuncture and aura energy detection stations. They use ear acupoint detectors to assess the physical condition of individuals by checking acupuncture points on various parts of the body. TCM doctors also identify acupuncture points with weak responses and use a technique involving small seeds placed at ear acupoints to provide relief. They teach people how to apply pressure to these points for self-care. This year, Shi Chongliang, Director of the Central Health Insurance Agency, took a break at the invitation of Vice President He Zongrong to experience traditional Chinese medicine auricular point testing.

Simply spread the fingers of both hands and place them flat on the energy detection instrument. The results will appear on the screen within a few seconds, with different colors representing various energy states. The display also includes five-element activity diagrams, as well as indicators for vitality and stability. Chinese medicine practitioners will further explain the test results and provide health care suggestions. Additionally, the poster wall in the body area features displays on traditional Chinese medicine auricular point testing and aura energy testing.

When the hand diagnostic instrument slides over the weaker meridian points on the palm, there will be obvious pain, and the answer is immediately written on the people's expressions.

It is worth mentioning that this year features two new experiences: hand diagnosis and pulse diagnosis. Auricular acupuncture points are located in the ears, while meridian acupoints across the body are found on the palms. Zhishun Technology Company’s transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator (I-DOC Active Magnetic Wave Two-Way Hand Diagnostic Instrument) has been approved by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as a medical device, and it has also received certifications from the US FDA, Mainland China’s NMPA, and others following years of research and development. In November, it was showcased at the World Federation of Acupuncture Societies 2023 International Symposium on Acupuncture-Moxibustion (WFAS 2023), where it was presented to experts and scholars from around the world in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and related sciences. When the testing and treatment instrument slides over weak acupuncture points on the palms, users often experience noticeable discomfort, which is reflected in their surprised expressions.

The remote Chinese medicine pulse diagnosis system developed by students in the laboratory led by Professor Chen Xiangfeng of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Taiwan University uses an instrument to record the patient's pulse and reproduces the pulse on the other end of the instrument. This experience also makes the public feel very magical and look forward to it. In the future, it can assist Chinese medicine practitioners in remote pulse sensing and use the received pulse data to conduct AI pulse analysis and diagnosis.

He Zongrong, Deputy Director of Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital, stated that with the strong support of Master Cheng Yen and President Lin Xinrong, the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine is a major feature of Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital. This approach not only helps patients adjust their symptoms and promote recovery but has also significantly benefited many patients with difficult and rare diseases. For instance, the "Xingnao Kaiqiao Fang" project has collaborated with the neurosurgery team to help brain injury patients "awaken and walk." The purpose of the traditional Chinese medicine experience area at the Hua Ci booth in the Taiwan Medical Technology Exhibition is to demonstrate the accessibility of traditional Chinese medicine to the public. Visitors can experience the advancements in modern traditional Chinese medicine through auricular acupuncture instruments, energy meters, hand diagnostic instruments, and pulse diagnostic instruments.
