American Women Contract AIDS After Receiving 'Vampire Facial' at Unlicensed Beauty Center

Three American women were infected with HIV after undergoing "vampire facials" at an unlicensed beauty salon in New Mexico.
CBS News reported that, according to research results released by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last Thursday (25th), the women were suspected to have contracted HIV after receiving invasive beauty treatments at the same spa. This incident marks the first known case of HIV infection linked to beauty injections.
The vampire facial, also known as a vampire facial, involves drawing blood, separating the growth factors in the platelets, and injecting them back into the face with a tiny needle. It is claimed to reduce acne and wrinkles while smoothing and plumping the skin. Although it is more affordable and less invasive than a facelift, it can be harmful if performed in unhygienic conditions.
Following the investigation, it was determined that at least 59 customers had been exposed to HIV. Twenty of them received the "vampire facial" treatment, while the others received beauty injections, such as botulinum toxin.
According to the latest CDC report, the first case was confirmed in 2018. The middle-aged woman had no history of drug abuse or blood transfusions and had never had sexual intercourse with HIV-positive individuals. Investigations revealed that the most suspicious factor was the "vampire facial treatment" she received at the spa, which has since drawn significant attention from officials.
Another female customer was diagnosed with HIV during a routine life insurance check-up in the same year, while a third woman discovered her infection a year ago when she was admitted to the hospital for related symptoms.
Although the report did not name the beauty salon involved, the local health department shut down a salon in Albuquerque in 2018. The salon's operator, Maria, pleaded guilty to five counts of practicing medicine without a license in June 2022 and was sentenced to three and a half years in prison.
A joint investigation by the CDC and the New Mexico Department of Health uncovered a row of unlabeled test tubes containing blood on the spa's kitchen counter and in its refrigerator, even placed next to food and the anesthetic lidocaine. Investigators also found several opened syringes in drawers, on counters, and in trash cans.
However, the source of the HIV remains unknown.
